Kraken to Koinly
Download your Kraken history, drop it in below, and you get a file in Koinly's own import layout plus a list of anything that needs a manual fix.
Your file is read in this browser tab and never uploaded.
1. Export from Kraken
Open your profile menu, then Documents, Exports and Create Export. Choose Ledgers, set the start and end dates, keep all fields and pick CSV. Kraken says an export can take from a few minutes to several days and doesn't email you, so check the Exports page. If the download is a zip, use the ledgers.csv inside it.
2. What changes in the file
| Column in the export | What we take from it |
|---|---|
txid | Kraken's entry number. Lines without one haven't settled yet and are skipped. |
refid | Links the two lines of a trade (or a spend and receive pair). |
time | Transaction time in UTC. |
type / subtype | trade, spend, receive, deposit, withdrawal, staking, earn reward. Moves between your own Kraken accounts are skipped. |
asset | Kraken code, translated to a plain ticker (XXBT to BTC, ZUSD to USD, DOT.S to DOT). |
amount | Amount before the fee; negative means it left your balance. |
fee | Fee charged on that line, in that line's asset. |
balance, wallet, aclass | Not used. |
| Koinly column | Filled from |
|---|---|
Date | Transaction time in UTC, written as YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS |
Sent Amount / Sent Currency | The side that left your balance |
Received Amount / Received Currency | The side that arrived |
Fee Amount / Fee Currency | Fee, in the asset it was charged in |
Net Worth Amount / Currency | Dollar value, only when the exchange file states it |
Tag | reward (staking and other rewards), lending interest, airdrop or other income for income rows; empty otherwise |
Description | Original operation name for income rows |
TxHash | The transaction ID on the blockchain, when the file has one |
3. Import into Koinly
In Koinly, open Wallets, add a wallet named after the exchange, then choose Import from file and upload the converted CSV. Koinly reads its own universal template directly.
Known problems with this pair
- Moves between Kraken spot and staking wallets are skipped; they aren't taxable and Koinly would otherwise show them as transfers with no match.
